A cup a day keeps the monsters away

Habits are King. What we do repeatedly every day determines our futures. I incorporated a new habit into my life this year: drinking green tea. Green tea inhibits angiogenesis (creation of blood vessels in tumors) and has so many anti-oxidants and cancer-fighting qualities that just three cups daily reduces the chance of a cancer relapse by 50 percent. Green tea with soy milk enhances this effect for both breast and prostate cancers. Be sure to steep your green tea for ten minutes and drink it within the hour you brew it to get the most health benefits. (Anticancer: A new Way of Life by David Servan-Schreiber, chapter 8)

Green tea is a detoxifier. It helps to clean the body of carcinogens. However, drinking a thermos full of green tea can nauseate me. It is not to my taste so three cups of it is hard to swallow. Matcha green tea is the entire tea leaf ground to powder form and is considered a super green tea, with as much as ten times the beneficial effects of regular green tea. Matcha tea is expensive but prepared in a Green Tea smoothie, I can hardly taste it.

Green Tea Smoothie: one teaspoon Matcha Green Tea steeped in a couple of tablespoons of boiling water and stirred to a smooth paste, one cup of soy milk, one half of a banana, a few organic strawberries, a handful of baby kale or spinach, 1/8 cup of ground flax seeds, 1/8 teaspoon turmeric and 1/8 teaspoon of ginger and a dash of black pepper dissolved in a small amount of olive oil. (Ginger, turmeric and black pepper fight cancer too). Put it all in a one-serving smoothie maker and mix until creamy and green.

Our bodies are finely made and susceptible to both good and evil. God has given us power and control over our health. He has revealed new information about phytonutrients and their role in good health. Now more than ever, God is calling us to be more healthy than we have been. This is a fact: habitual consumption of fast foods, processed foods, daily indulgence in animal foods like meat, chicken, pork, and dairy, and the daily consumption of sugar, white bread, white rice and baked goods contribute to an early death. Let go of the addictive hold these foods have and reach to God who wants you to live a happy and healthy life. I try not to wonder why God allows illness and suffering. Instead, I am awed at how God is moving in our world today to call us away from unhealthy eating habits into healthy ones. So fix yourself some green tea and and join me in thanking God that green tea, and all the fruits and vegetables of this world are now available to us all year.
